In Reach prepares students for college, work and life by creating programs that support academics, build life skills, and engage students in a variety of opportunities to expand their horizons. Oftentimes, young people work with In Reach staff side-by-side to plan, organize and implement change in their schools, communities and daily lives.
Youth Ambassadors Program (YA)
The Youth Ambassadors Program (YA) currently at Parkdale High School in Riverdale, Maryland, is a 30-week program for students beginning in their sophomore year. The YA Program offers students a variety of opportunities to build life skills through financial literacy, prepare for college and the workforce, and engage in meaningful service learning projects to address the issues that directly impact them.
Middle School Initiatives
In Reach's Middle School Initiatives are supported by two programs: The Quantum Project (QP), a college awareness and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) career exploration program and The Quantum Project Heroes (QPH), a program that engages students in service learning to keep them connected to their community, locally and globally.
In Reach's Middle School Initiatives link students and their parents to endless learning opportunities - speakers working in the STEM fields, field trips to museums and local universities and colleges, and access to additional community programs available to meet their essential needs.
The Quantum Project
The Quantum Project, a year-round after-school and summer program, engages students in sixth through eighth grades in hands-on weekly activities that reinforce the school day curriculum. In Reach's goal is to affect overall student achievement specifically in Science while also developing the areas that the Partnership for 21st Century Skills has termed the 4C's - communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and creativity - the "super skills" for the 21st century. NASA's Afterschool Universe: Bringing Astronomy Down to Earth and No Boundaries curriculums address the STEM components of the program.
The Quantum Project Heroes
The Quantum Project Heroes are a collective of students being prepared, empowered, and energized to serve as active advocates in their learning and their communities. Activities include a wide range of opportunities for students to initiate and engage in conversations about topics of their choice, volunteer for community service activities, participate in critical thinking, reflective and team building activities, and lead service learning projects.
The Parent Project
The purpose of the Parent Project is to engage parents and families in activities that increase their knowledge about post secondary education and the many opportunities available to their children. Participants are engaged through presentations and workshops and are provided with a variety of resources to assist them in preparing their children to be college and career ready.
